“Empathy 7” brings together a group of artists and specialists from various disciplines in a Transdisciplinary Performance Creation Lab (LabCET) to create, produce, and stage an original site-specific work based on and through the concept of “Cenesthesia,” understood—initially—as the capacity to be aware of the body’s internal organs and, consequently, its multiple transdisciplinary approaches (a crossroads that transcends the intersection of multiple fields of knowledge and wisdom). The process culminates in the production and staging of four public performances.
Cenesthesia, a concept associated with psychology, is explained as the ability to perceive and feel the body’s internal organs. This opens up a wide range of artistic and theatrical research avenues that include the metaphorization of the physical body, the individual and/or collective body, the social body, the dream body, and the digital body. It allows us to understand each individual as an organ in itself, as part of something more complex, or as a whole.
Perception plays a fundamental role, but so do physiology and biology, through simple descriptions that explain the functioning of organs as such, as parts of the body, but also of the systems associated with the senses: sight, smell, touch, taste and hearing.
